Job Profile for Research Scientist (Medicinal Chemistry /Phytochemistry):
The Research Scientist (Medicinal Chemistry / Phytochemistry) is responsible for isolating, purifying and characterizing bioactive compounds from natural sources, developing synthetic methodologies and conducting structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies. Proficiency in analytical techniques like HPLC, NMR and LC-MS is essential, along with collaboration on drug discovery projects and adherence to regulatory standards. The role requires a PhD or Master’s in Medicinal Chemistry, Phytochemistry, or related fields, with expertise in research and innovation in natural product chemistry.
Qualification & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry, Phytochemistry, or a related field.
- M.Sc./M.Pharm. Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in medicinal chemistry, preferably in academia or industry.
- Expertise in stereochemical concepts, classification of phytochemicals, ChemDraw, data analysis and interpretation.
- Prior experience in natural product research, chemistry of plant natural products, structure-activity relationship, stereochemistry, conformation and natural product synthesis is desirable.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, with an H-index greater than 10.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Scope of work includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Isolate, purify, and characterize bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and other natural sources.
- Conduct structural elucidation of compounds using techniques like NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC.
- Write and edit high-quality scientific content, book chapters, and regulatory documents related to medicinal chemistry.
- Develop synthetic or semi-synthetic methodologies for natural products.
- Perform structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies to identify therapeutic potential.
- Validate analytical methods and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for drug discovery and development projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation, prepare technical reports, and contribute to research publications.
Additional Responsibilities:
This includes but not limited to the following:
- Generally aware of best practices and business/industry trends in writing/translation.
- Participate in VC/audio calls along with your manager and record the minutes as required.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong research skills for terminology and domain-specific knowledge.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for language and cultural preservation.
