Senior Research Scientist / Research Scientist – Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) Research

Job Summary:
The selected candidate will contribute to research focused on aging, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, host–pathogen interactions, natural product screening, toxicology, and drug discovery using C. elegans as an experimental model. The role involves experimental design, execution, data analysis, scientific writing, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
This role requires strong technical expertise, precision, and a proactive approach to research.
Job responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and optimize C. elegans-based research studies.
- Maintain and characterize C. elegans strains and mutant libraries.
- Perform lifespan, healthspan, fertility, developmental, stress resistance, locomotion, and behavioral assays.
- Conduct RNAi-based functional studies and genetic screening.
- Perform molecular biology experiments including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
- Utilize fluorescence/confocal microscopy for imaging and phenotype characterization.
- Analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical tools.
- Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, patents, and grant proposals.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, laboratory records, and research documentation.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality systems, biosafety, and institutional guidelines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams and external collaborators.
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Research Scientist:
- Lead independent research projects and strategic scientific initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor Research Scientists, Research Associates, Ph.D. scholars, and technical staff.
- Identify new research opportunities and establish national and international collaborations.
- Contribute to research funding proposals and project management.
- Drive publication of high-impact scientific manuscripts and intellectual property generation.
Educational experience and requirements:
- Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
- 5–10 years of post-Ph.D. research experience with demonstrated expertise in C. elegans researc
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) culture, handling, maintenance, synchronization, and strain management.
- Experience in performing C. elegans-based phenotypic assays, including:
- Lifespan and longevity assays
- Healthspan assays
- Fertility and brood size assays
- Developmental assays
- Stress resistance assays (oxidative, thermal, osmotic, and pathogen-induced stress)
- Locomotion and behavioral assays
- Feeding (pharyngeal pumping) assays
- CRISPR/Cas genome editing in C. elegans
- Bioinformatics and omics data analysis
- High-throughput screening platforms
- Natural product pharmacology
- Aging biology and longevity research
- Neurobiology or metabolic disease research
- GLP/GMP awareness and laboratory quality systems
